Chapin Marsh, one of the founders of Calvary Chapel University, holds his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Political Science from University of Southern California, Master’s degree in Education from Pepperdine and his Doctorate in Education from Pensacola Christian College.

Chapin brings a varied background of business, pastoral and educational experience. He owned Domino’s pizza stores in Southern California, consulted small businesses in the media and alternative energy industries, served as the Executive Pastor at a large start-up in San Diego, has consulted many Christian schools nationwide, and served as the Administrator of pre-k through 12. He also served as the President of Horizon College San Diego.

From his time consulting Christian schools, he felt the Lord showing him a need for Calvary Chapel University. Many servants at Christian schools were faithful in answering God’s call to teach or administrate, but felt ill equipped for practical application and/or Bible knowledge. Calvary Chapel University provides a flexible learning environment for those faithful folks to grow in their knowledge/skill while serving daily in the ministry.

Pastor Chapin is married with 3 lovely children and loves to travel, read and share Jesus wherever he goes.

Adjunct Faculty

When Rick Martin graduated from high school in 1985, he wanted to discover how well he would enjoy teaching so he volunteered as a teacher aide in a head start program for a year in New York City. A year after this assignment, Rick enrolled as an education major at Eastern Mennonite University and graduated in 1990 with his certification to teach K-8th grade.

After teaching two years and being trained for church leadership, Rick and his wife Annette responded to a call to lead a church plant in Versailles MO. As a bi-vocational pastor and 3rd grade public school teacher, Rick came to understand the importance of Christian education as he observed his students facing cultural challenges before they were developmentally ready. Seeing the decline of morality among students within his classroom, Rick developed a conviction for Christian education that would eventually grow into a commitment to build partnerships between the home, school, and church as a strategy to strengthen the spiritual, moral, academic, and relational foundation students need today.

In 1998 Rick was invited to join the pastoral staff at Cornerstone Church located in VA. His primary role was to lead the church’s Christian school and provide a liaison between the church and school staff. He began to pursue formal training for educational leadership and obtained his M.Ed. in school administration from Columbia International University (CIU) in 2003. Four years later, he enrolled in CIU’s doctoral program for educational leadership and graduated May 2015.
Over the past 17 years, Rick has learned principles of biblical leadership, educational philosophy, behavior management, staff development, mission and vision advancement, and emotional health to enhance his understanding of leadership. His relationship with God, along with the skills acquired from experience and education provide the structure needed to function as an educational leader for Christian schools.

Chief Operating Officer

Laura Nunes is an entrepreneur who always focuses on the needs of others, creating great products and always improving them. Her new vision brought Yamaha Motor Corporation’s watercraft division to a higher level. Laura started two successful apparel companies as acting CEO/Owner. She also helped launch new technology in the energy sector with the use of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy used in the process to help analyze and control emissions. Laura still considers her greatest accomplishment being the mother of her four children.

Debbie has over 30 years of experience in the education field with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible and Secondary Education from Calvary Bible College and a Master in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma. She concurrently serves as an online instructor, administrator, and board member for an online secondary school based in Connecticut while also serving at CCU. Debbie joined the CCU team in 2011 as a faculty member and the institution’s Accreditation and Compliance Coordinator. At CCU, she works closely with all institutional departments to maintain compliance with Accreditation, State Compliance, Academic Compliance, Data Analysis, and the Library. Her favorite scripture is Philippians 1:6: “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Director of Library and Learning Resources

Jody has an undergraduate degree in Sociology, having attended SUNY Oswego but ultimately graduating from Madonna University. It was while in Michigan that the Lord grabbed Jody’s heart, where she also pursued her interest in books and learning by becoming a book buyer for a chain of Christian bookstores. She then enrolled in Library school at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and earned a Masters Degree in Library Science.
After having worked in corporate, public and academic libraries, Jody served in Christian education at Salisbury Christian School in Maryland as the Director of Libraries and Technology. She has also been an adjunct professor and part-time Librarian at a community college. Presently, in addition to work for CCU, she is a Library Media Specialist for a multicultural school in the Baltimore County Public Schools. Jody is enthusiastic about the study of the Bible, and its context, and how that applies to the present-day church. Her family includes her husband, Brian, three adult children, and assorted animals. She and Brian love to travel and revel in the wonders of God around the world.

Registrar

Donna Lien was brought up in a military family and has lived all over the country. In June of 1992 she became a Christian was promptly called into the Horizon School of Evangelism where her foundation in Jesus was planted. Through the years at Horizon she was a part of the Horizon Sports Ministry and had the opportunity to travel the world playing volleyball and ministering through sports. In 2010 Donna went back to school to pursue her BA in History and is currently praying about furthering her education. Donna currently resides in San Diego County with her wonderful daughter, and two kitties. Donna loves spending time outdoors, hiking, biking, and swimming in the ocean. She is also blessed to be a part of Calvary Chapel University.

Billing Manager

Pandora or “Pandy” Johnson volunteered at Maranatha Chapel as a children’s ministry teacher, VBS decorator, served in various women’s and family ministries. Has worked as a self employed bookkeeper for over 20 years. Is a Quickbook ProAdvisor. Born and raised in Imperial Beach and currently resides in San Diego. Married to Dean Johnson since 1991, has 3 children, Lorie, Heather and Ned plus two Grandchildren Levi and Avery. You can find her walking her dog, Kai, doing anything crafty, going to Bible Study and loves the outdoors. Favorite scripture: Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

CCU Conference Manager & Alumni President

Miray has been part of the CCU family since 2016. She graduated from CCU with her Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies in 2019, as well as completing the Women’s Ministry Certificate in 2018. She currently has the joy of serving as the CCU Conference Manager and Alumni President, where she is able to connect with over 170 CCU Alums around the world. Miray has been married to Emil for nearly 30 years. They met on the mission field in Hungary in 1991 and have 3 adult children. Graduating from CCU was a dream come true for Miray who desired to finish up her degree in a Biblically sound University. Being able to work from home and invest her time in furthering God’s Kingdom through booking conferences and connecting with Alums is beyond a blessing for her. Seeing people grounded in God’s Word, equipped for ministry, and raised up to serve the Lord is at the center of her heart. Encouraging women is her passion, by God’s grace she has a women’s devotional book out called, “Fruitful in Affliction” where she shares lessons learned through God’s Word and her testimony about being a mom with a special needs child. Miray serves in her church CC Living Word in Irvine, Ca in Hope Outreach Ministry where she is reaching out to moms with Special Needs children. Genesis 41:52: “God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.” & Gal. 6:2 & 10: “Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ. So then, while we have opportunity, let’s do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith,” are life verses that keep her eyes on Jesus and serving others.

Chief Academic Officer

Kathy has been a faculty member at CCU since 2011. She currently serves as the Chief Academic Officer for CCU. She also teaches a variety of courses at CCU including women’s ministry courses and general education courses. Kathy is married to Pastor Jimmy Morales and they serve the Body of Christ at Calvary Chapel Lone Mountain in Las Vegas, NV. Kathy is the Women’s Ministry Director at her church and loves teaching the Bible, counseling, and leadership development. She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Liberty University (LU), a post-graduate degree as an Educational Specialist, and a Master’s degree in Business Management & Leadership all from LU. Kathy is grateful to God for the privilege of teaching at Calvary Chapel University. Her favorite scripture is Galatians 2:20: For I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Adjunct Faculty

Christine Marsh is a co-founding team member of Calvary Chapel University. In 2000 Christine was instrumental in designing the curriculum, developing the infrastructure of CCU from legal set up, to finance, HR and overall operations. She has continued in that role throughout her time with CCU.

Christine is also a CCU faculty member, (her true love). She earned her BS at Arizona State University and her MA at Calvary Chapel University.

Christine has three wonderful children (Cade, Zack and Cally), as well as a delightful dog named Indy! She can be seen on many end times blogs, is a voracious student of eschatology and prophecy and is a well regarded speaker in her own right.

Director of Admissions

Pamela attended Horizon School of Evangelism in the 1991 and enjoyed a practicum in Russia where she worked with a team to share the gospel in a small village outside of St. Petersburg. She then assisted the Director of HSE for 5 years. She served on the board as President for Rancho Vista Church in Chula Vista. She was the Woman’s leader in a home-based bible study for 15 years. She has served as a small group leader in Woman’s Skills, and inner-healing ministry for 3 years thru North Coast Calvary Chapel. She has served as Secretary to the board of her church for 11 years. She currently enjoys being involved in the Healing Rooms ministry at her church.

She is passionate about applying the truth of the Word and who HE is and seeing it applied to our daily lives, inner healing, people set free and living abundant lives, women’s ministry and her amazing husband and sons.

Senior Pastor

David Reynolds is the Senior Pastor of Engage Calvary in College Station, Texas. He has been in ministry for 25 years, almost 15 years as Senior Pastor and over 10 years as Worship Pastor at Calvary Austin. Much of this time was spent in bi-vocational ministry. David also works as a Business Coordinator at Texas A&M University. David graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in 1989 with a B.A. in Psychology. He received a M.A. in Biblical Studies from Calvary Chapel University in 2018. David came to Christ while in college, and soon began playing guitar in a Christian rock band. It was not long after this time that he met his wife, Heather. They eventually started another band, and for several years did concerts in Austin and around Texas. Their heart was to share Christ through the songs they had written, and the testimony of what God had done in their lives. Outside of ministry, David enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, swimming, biking, and playing the guitar. David and Heather have been married for over 31 years and have two adult daughters.

About-Faculty- Rick Melenciano

Rick’s personal mission is to assist as many as he can in developing an intimate, personal, and “way of life” relationship with God. His spiritual gifts are in administration, counseling, and teaching. He currently serves as the Administrative Pastor of Branch Church.

Rick served in the Marine Corps from 2005 to 2009. He then went on to complete a Bachelor of Science degree from Azusa Pacific University in organizational leadership, followed by a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Bethel Seminary San Diego. During his educational years he worked in the banking, education, and government industries.

He currently resides in San Diego with his wife Courtney, and their two children Kendrick and Vincent.

Aloha! Education is one of my greatest passions. Be it a traditional degree, vocational study, or on-the-job training, I wholeheartedly believe in lifelong learning. What a privilege to have the freedom to partner and teach with Calvary Chapel University. And it’s a blessing to come alongside students and see how God will use their academic journey.

I was born and raised in Hawaiʻi. Now, with three boys, my husband and I get to bring them up in the islands too. When our family has a free moment, we often find ourselves at the beach to catch waves or explore the tidepools. It is a humbling opportunity to parent for Christ as I think He hopes to shape us just as much as He’s given us the responsibility to raise our children. So as beautiful as Hawaiʻi is, we aim to raise our sons to be Heaven-minded and mission-oriented. And it is a daily reminder for us to stay focused on the main thing–Christ.

Hello. My name is Autumn and I am excited to join the CCU family. I finished my masters from CCU in Biblical Studies and Counseling last spring 2020. I am currently a 4th grade teacher as well in Colorado. I have a daughter, Madison who is almost 13 and two stepsons ages 15 and 19. We enjoy doing things as a family such as traveling, going to movies, and camping. I am excited to mentor other students in growing closer to the Lord through the classes at CCU.

I arrived in Europe as a single missionary in 1998 and met my wife, Maria, a fellow-missionary, in 2000. During these years, we have had the privilege to live in the United Kingdom, Romania, and Italy, while serving in different capacities throughout Europe. Many of these years have focused on pastoral, discipleship, and teaching ministries. In 2016, when pastoring a church in Italy, I realized my own need to grow in the calling of a Biblical Counselor. More than ever I encountered the need to effectively use God’s Word to help others. This led to my pursuit to earn a doctorate in counseling from Liberty University and to become a Certified Biblical Counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). This also led to an awareness of the need to train and equip other pastors and church leaders with sound biblical truths. Today, my wife, three teenage kids, and I are based in Southwest England. In addition to co-laboring in a local church plant, we are committed to Biblical Counseling through training and helping others in missional contexts.

Jeff Stratton

My great claim to fame was that I was born not in the “State” of but the “Territory” of Alaska a year before it became the 49th State in the Union in 1959. I grew up in a denominational church and always remember having a personal relationship with Jesus. I attended Calvary Chapel of San Diego School of Evangelism, was a Youth Director and then a missionary to England working with the homeless. From there I had a continuing desire to help families and I attended Christian Heritage College (now San Diego Christian College) and graduated with a B.S. in Counseling Psychology. I then went on to received a Masters of Social Work at San Diego State University.

I worked for eight years for Child Protection Services and received my LCSW while working there. I have been a part-time licensed counselor with Heartland Biblical Counseling for over 20 years. I see Biblical counseling as finely tuned discipleship, I enjoy sharing God’s solutions to life’s challenges especially working with the body of Christ. As Paul expresses in Galatians 6:10 I enjoy doing “good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

In my other occupation, I am employed at a financial institution as a Sr. Risk Analyst working to mitigate cyber fraud. I am married to a wonderful godly wife of 29 years and we have three wonderful children, the first two whom we adopted. We have learned much from all three of them in our journey together with Jesus.

David Guzik is a pastor, Bible teacher, and author of a widely used Bible commentary. Millions of people use David’s online Bible commentary on sites such as Enduring Word and Blue Letter Bible.

David has been in Christian service for more than 35 years, including two church plants and more than seven years as a missionary in Germany, as director and teacher for an international school (Calvary Chapel Bible College Germany). David has no formal Bible College or seminary training but does have a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

David is married to Inga-Lill for more than 30 years and together they have 3 adult children.

Dr. Matt Chavez

Matthew Chavez has served in education for over twenty years in the capacities of teacher, coach, vice principal, principal, and superintendent. He earned his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Comparative Literature from San Diego State University. He holds a Master’s Degree and an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Administration both from Pensacola Christian College. Additionally, Matthew served as an Associate Pastor for thirteen years at the Rock Church in San Diego and at Grace Chapel in Lancaster, CA.

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Geoff Still earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting as well as a juris doctor degree, all from Nova Southeastern University. He has served at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale since 2013 as the Business Director for Calvary Christian Academy. In 2014 Geoff became the Treasurer of CCU.

Geoff’s past experience includes 14 years at Nova Southeastern University, where he was the Director of Finance and Operations for the Center of Psychological Studies and the Mailman Segal Institute for Early Childhood Education. Additionally, he wrote and developed the Master of Science in Education Law degree. This program is still being offered online through the Nova Southeastern University Law Center.

Geoff married the love of his life, Stacy, a high school educator. They have four children, ages 7, 13, 16, and 17, all of whom attend CCA. Sports, both watching and playing, the beach, and Disney World are some of their favorite things to do when not “at school.” It is their love of Jesus, however, that trumps them all.
